WHAT'S BITING
January * February
Experience the thrill of fighting a Great Blue Fin Tuna, come to Hatteras in January or February. We do have to play with the weather this time of year. They range from around 80 to 600 pounds. You may also hook up with a King Mackerel along with Yellowfin Tuna and may have some Blackfin Tuna mixed in. The average weight is 35 pounds.
March * April
In the early spring the Yellowfin Tuna is the main catch. You may have several hook up at one time. Great fighters. They are great to eat. Marinated and cooked on the grill, tuna bites fried or make a tuna salad.
May * June * July
Late spring the Marlin, Dolphin and Wahoo start to show. If the water stays cool the Yellowfin Tuna may still hang around. June and July are great months for Dolphin, Sailfish, Blue Marlin, White Marlin and maybe a Yellowfin Tuna. You might get a grand slam on the day you go out. The Dolphin, Wahoo and Yellowfin are great to eat. The Sailfish and Marlins are usually catch and release.
August
August is good fishing. Great weather for catching a little bit of everything. Dolphin, Wahoo, Tuna and Billfish.
September * October * November
The weather is beginning to cool down as the fall is coming on, but the fishing is still hot. You will still catch Dolphin, Wahoo, Tunas and Billfish. The King Mackerel are starting to show. Live Bait King Mackerel fishing is at it peak in October and November. Fall fishing is excellent.
